MOT

All cars over three years old must pass a yearly MOT test, by law, to show they are safe and roadworthy.

If your MOT has expired, its illegal to drive your car on the road unless it is to a place of a booked mot. Driving without a valid MOT also makes your car insurance invalid.

An MOT involves dozens of checks on your car, ranging from the brakes and fuel system to lights. mirrors, seatbelts, windscreen wipers and exhaust system.

An MOT can take between 45-60 minutes however if the vehicle fails and needs repairs, then it will take longer.

In case of failure:

If your car has a dangerous fault, you will not be able to drive the car away, it will need to stay at the garage until the repairs have been carried out to a safe standard .

If your car has a major fault, you may be able to drive it away if it is still roadworthy, and if your previous MOT hasn't expired.

Retests:

All major and dangerous faults will need to be fixed in order to make the vehicle roadworthy, then you can arrange a partial MOT retest in which the car must pass.

If you leave your car with us for repair, you will be able to get a partial retest for free, provided its completed within 10 working days of failing the MOT.
